More Festival fun planned for 2012!

The 2011 Llanelli Festival of Walks held at the end of May was, all agreed, another resounding success. Visitors and locals, members and non-members, shared and enjoyed the walks - a choice of 18 including sections of Ffordd y Bannau (the Beacons Way), Neath Waterfalls, Gower Peninsular and sections of the Landsker Trail, to name but a few, as well as family walks arranged for our youngest walkers and their families. Also included of course were the usual popular social events, from the get-together on the Friday evening, through the Festival Party and on to Monday's farewell Welsh Tea.

Planning the walks and social activities for the 2012 Festival is under way and one thing's for sure:  another convivial weekend is, as always, assured - whatever the weather!  The dates for your diary - one week later than usual due to the change of dates for the Spring Bank Holiday: Friday 1st – Monday 4th June 2012.

This will be the 17th annual festival, an event that has attracted hundreds of visitors to the town, including many who come year after year.

Llanelli's Festival is believed to be the only one that is run entirely by Ramblers' Group members.  The aim is simply to stage an enjoyable weekend that raises Llanelli's profile as an excellent centre for walking, so that its footpaths and countryside are appreciated and cared for.  Another aim is to break even financially, and with everyone working on a voluntary basis, plus support from local councils and other organisations, the walks fee is always kept to a minimum. For 2012, it is proposed to charge a standard price of £6 per walk - including all coach travel to and from walks - or less for walks that are closer to home. This will be confirmed as soon as the 2012 programme is prepared.

And as soon as it is, it will be published on this website - including the booking form to print and post off.  So... please make a note in your diary to keep in touch with this website – and to keep the 2012 Spring Bank Holiday weekend free for another fun time of walking and socialising in Llanelli.
